September seems to be the month that sewing gets cranked up in high gear. Kids are back in school, the house is quiet, vacations are over, days are cooler, and the holidays are only three months away! I noticed the shop starts to get busier now that parent and grandparents have more free time. Brains start buzzing with gift making ideas and holiday decor. Personal sewing projects that were on the back burner get picked up again as we all settle in a early autumn routine.
In 1982, President Ronald Reagan declared September National Sewing Month “In recognition of the importance of home sewing to our Nation.” I am not sure what the catalyst for this was but it is pretty awesome this was on someone’s agenda! A quick Google search of “us presidents who sew” gave some interesting results that were not exactly what I was looking for.
What are you going to do to celebrate National Sewing Month? You could teach someone to sew or learn a new skill. What’s on your agenda?
