Kids are back in school and there’s a slight chill in the evening air these days. After a summer of sewing garments, my thoughts have finally turned back to quilts. Thankfully, there have been a ton of new releases lately for fall quilt patterns. It’s reassuring that I’m not the only one with the same idea!
The trends lately have been bright, bold colors perfect for autumn, and a pretty organic, bohemian aesthetic. I feel like I could see almost any of these patterns right at home in an Anthropologie (though any of these quilts would be far better quality than what they sell there!). Looking for a new pattern to kick off your September sewing? Here are my favorite picks.
Watchtower
This awesome pattern by Amy Smart of Diary of a Quilter is the perfect transition quilt for fall. It has tons of visual interest with all sorts of secondary patterns, and she’s styled hers in such beautiful warm fall colors. The southwestern vibe will totally bring a bit of warmth to those cold winter days we’ll be getting in the next little while. Available in throw, twin, queen, and king sizes. Download the PDF pattern for $10.
Fly By
I love the way the Fly By Quilt by Kristi Schroeder of Initial K Studio shows that simplicity never has to mean boring. This quilt comes in two flavors: pieced with gray and white solids for an understated focus, or with Me + You Indah Batiks, as shown above. Available in mini/baby and throw sizes. Download the PDF for $12.
Prism
If you love quilting with ombres, you know V & Co. Vanessa Christenson and her studio have outdone themselves again with SIX new fall quilt patterns. These patterns always seem like the perfect mix of throwback, farmhouse-style quilts with just enough color popping to make them fresh and modern. Prism is a generous throw size. Download the PDF for $10.
Up and Away Mini Quilt
So I’m pretty sure that Sheri Cifaldi-Morrill of Whole Circle Studio thinks I’m a stalker, because I’ve been hounding her on Instagram for months as she’s been developing this pattern. I’m so excited that it’s finally been released! Up and Away is an 18″ mini quilt or pillow pattern that’s entirely paper pieced. It’s going to be the perfect addition to my daughter’s room. Download the PDF for $9.95.
Printshop Pineapple Quilt
How cute is this bright spin on a traditional quilt block from Rita Hodge of Red Pepper Quilts? Rita created hers with the “Printshop” line from Cotton + Steel, so the colors are right on point. Make the quilt any size you wish, as the pattern is just the block itself. Download the PDF for $3.
Cinched
Specifically made for two jelly rolls (one print and one solid), this quilt by Amy Friend of During Quiet Time is a lot of bang for your buck. Using precuts is so smart, and I love how they come together to make some fresh geometric shapes. This is one of my favorite fall quilt patterns. Throw size quilt. Download the PDF for $9.
